Microneedling is one of the latest treatments being used by licensed dermatologists to improve the appearance of their clients’ skin. Also known as collagen induction therapy, this process involves using a special device equipped with fine needles. Then the device creates hundreds of microscopic punctures in the upper layer of your skin. While the process may seem intimidating, it’s considered to be a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that is safe and effective, producing results that are nothing short of amazing.

How Does Microneedling Work?

During your session session, your licensed dermatologist will use the derma roller to work on the desired areas of your skin. The tool looks similar to a paint roller, except that it’s coated in dozens of tiny needles instead of a pad. The process itself is considered relatively painless, but you will see hundreds of tiny dots of blood appear on your skin afterward.

Your body is designed to produce collagen when it is damaged or wounded in order to speed up the healing process. During your Reno micro-needling session, the tiny abrasions are created to stimulate your body’s natural healing process. In turn, this stimulates cell turnover as well as an increase in the production of elastin and collagen. Ultimately, microneedling can be used to help reverse many signs of aging and may help to prevent them from recurring.

Collagen and Your Body

One of the main benefits of this treatment is that it encourages your body to produce collagen which acts as your body’s own healing mechanism. It can be used to produce natural results and unlike many other forms of skin rejuvenation treatments, micro-needling has far less downtime.

Licensed dermatologists use a professional grade micro-needling device that has 3mm long needles. The size of the needles makes this method far more effective at reducing the effects of deep acne scars, sun damage, and aging. For instance, a study published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery in 2016, noted that both laser treatment and micro-needling were considered to be quite effective and had comparable results. However, the study did reveal that microneedling is better tolerated by most patients, has less downtime, and has fewer side effects.

Reducing the Effects of Aging

Today, people spend billions on a huge array of services and products in an attempt to maintain a more youthful appearance. Fortunately, microneedling provides those with ambitions of radiant, youthful skin with a better solution. This method is considered to be one of the most effective ways to achieve rejuvenated skin that feels tighter and more firm according to a 2015 study published in the International Journal of Dermatology. And if you are using one or more of the many expensive anti-aging serums available, experts agree that no more than approximately 4 to 8 percent of the product actually penetrates your skin. Recently studies have shown that microneedling makes it possible for far more of the product to penetrate your skin, allowing you to reap the full benefits associated with the product.
